Learning About Springers

I've been sweatin' the front axle situation for this springer for a second. I found it strange that one rocker's axle hole measured 13/16" ID and the other side measured 11/16". I figured I'd need a stepped axle but which one? Every douche bag on eBay I asked questions wouldn't reply. Catalogs usually only supply model years and such. Jaren (the guy who sold me the springer) said he planned on running a 3/4" axle if he were to use it with a spool wheel. Luckily I found a friend with a 21" rim laced to an original star hub so how about using a stock knucklehead axle since the springer is an OEM offset. I consulted CRO with the idea and he agreed and sure enough it worked out. I wanted to talk to someone before spending a hundo on an axle.

Threw the new Speed Master on the wheel too. Lookin' slick.

Twist It Up!

I spotted this bitchin' 1962 XLCH across from work today.

Sorry for the shitty photos. I'm not used to taking photos with a phone. If you click the image it's more clear.

Got'er Did

Took the tank out to O.J.'s Custom Welding in Spencer and he did it up proper. I have a hard time welding metal this thin so I leave it to the professional.

Hammer Time

Chop it up.

Hammer the shape out and mock it up

Do some trimmage.

Ready to weld.

Chain Rubbage

I tried to fix the oil tank once but the notch I made to weld in wasn't deep enough. So I get to do it all over again. I suppose I just didn't take into account my chain stretching a bit. And since the first welds were right up against my drain and main feed, I get to relocate those bungs to the other side of the oil tank. Fun stuff.

SHOW CLASS MAGAZINE

I received the first issue of Show Class magazine today with a sick t-shirt. It looks rad! It's good to finally see some scum bag shit in a biker magazine again because who doesn't like T & A??

Bungs

I went out to Springville, IN today and had some threaded bungs made by Kent Miller. I'll probably have him make my front axle too.
